Breaks and The Bark
Simplicity in the form can be contagious and complexity repelling. The project has been so designed to be a relish-able blend of both. Site and its requirements adorn each-other when placed in twin towers. Lighting, ventilation, circulation and phase-wise development are at ease in this scheme. Taking into consideration the climatic belt in which the site falls, skin of the “towers” have been customized in such a way that the curvilinear skin is distant on the south and west facades where the heat gain would be maximum and closest on the north and east facades from the inner layer. This outer skin of twin towers have alternating solid and voids, which form horizontal “breaks” on the facade, strategically placed for ventilation and lighting that eventually merge into another layer becoming the “ground-scraper” resembling bark of a tree. Functional distribution accommodates a phase-wise development of the project, by grouping IT and Institutions in one, and the Hotel and Service apartments in the second tower.
Bark being the strongest and hardest outer layer of the tree protecting and sheltering the inner layers has been used on a larger scale representing the increasing impact of I.T industry on the Indian economy where by accommodating vast amount of Indian man/mind power for its growth.
Substantial amount of surrounding land use is industrial and residential, by accommodating all the functions in the twin towers front segment of the scope is left for further site development and landscaping. Since most of the other plots in the TZ1 are catering to the commercial and entertainment needs of the residential group, we have focused on the industrial sector, hence, proposal for an exhibition pavilion as the ground scraper is suggestive which takes the shape of “bark” and merges into the lower floors of twin towers, when required can be extended to cater higher display needs.
